The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati (MSDGC) desired a new facility housing up to 200 engineers and support personnel. B&N was the Owner’s Representative for the design and construction of the new three-story, 59,000 square foot wastewater engineering office building utilizing the One Phase design-build delivery method. B&N prepared the Request for Proposals, which described the Program of Requirements for the building and the technical specifications for building systems.
This project is one of the first LEED Gold-certified facilities owned by the City of Cincinnati and one of the first projects delivered to the city through a design-build project delivery system.
The features contributing to the LEED Gold certification included an innovative HVAC system utilizing ice storage tanks, vegetated roofs, sunshade devices for south-facing fenestration, a rain garden as part of the stormwater management system, automated lighting controls, provisions for recycling facilities and bicycle racks.
The facility houses up to 200 engineers and support personnel. Spaces within the facility include private and open offices for up to 200 employees, a large public lobby and reception area, large and small group meeting rooms, breakout spaces, public restrooms, printing and reproduction graphics rooms, file storage rooms and mechanical/electrical equipment rooms.
The MSDGC Wastewater Engineering facility received two 2010 DBIA-Ohio Valley Regional Design-Build Awards: one for Design-Build Excellence and one for Public Sector Building under $15 million.
