The City of Cincinnati and ODOT District 8 retained Burgess & Niple to provide engineering services on the Waldvogel Viaduct Bridge. Services included in-depth inspection, load rating, and rehabilitation plans.
The rating and rehabilitation work was heavily focused on deteriorated floorbeams, seated girder hinges, and steel column bases. The bridge is a steel, fracture-critical, twin-girder bridge supported by steel pier bents. During the in-depth inspection, multiple locations of severe deterioration were found throughout the structure.
Repair plans were developed separately for the portions of the structure owned by the City of Cincinnati and ODOT District 8.
