B&N is assisting the City of Barberton in updating and maintaining its lead service mapping and water service material inventory within its water distribution system. Additionally, the City of Norton purchases water from Barberton, therefore water service lines within Norton fall under Barberton’s responsibility for mapping and water service material inventory.
The project team is updating existing lead service mapping data from 2017 to comply with EPA’s mandated Lead and Copper Rule Improvement (LCRI) guidelines. This will ensure that the City has accurate and up-to-date data of the location of lead service lines, thereby protecting public health and providing compliance with regulations.
B&N’s plan of action includes using existing records to identify where service line materials are already known and then developing a strategy for identifying materials in cases of uncertainty. We created an online GIS service line self-assessment dashboard for water customers to enter data about their water service line and the plan will be to conduct spot checks to ensure accuracy. Additionally, we’re developing a strategy for representative potholing to visually observe service lines, and plan for site visits to verify accuracy and compliance.
By employing comprehensive strategies, B&N facilitates compliance with regulatory requirements while enhancing the overall efficiency and accuracy of the inventory process. B&N’s support and expertise are instrumental in helping the City of Barberton meet its regulatory obligations for its water distribution system.
