To continue improving pedestrian safety within the Phoenix-Metro area, B&N was selected to pilot a project to determine if Artificial Intelligence (AI) could analyze interactions between pedestrians, bicyclists and cars near Valley Metro Light Rail stations. B&N used drones to capture continuous hours of video for six weeks for approximately 150 hours of video data. Our drone team coordinated with the Maricopa Association of Governments, the City of Phoenix, the City of Tempe and local transit providers on drone video data collection. The collected video was analyzed using computer vision and AI technology to understand near-miss conflicts in the region. This pilot project diligently evaluated and identified trends, processed AI data and developed a deep understanding of the interactions of these groups.
