As part of the Design-Build Team, Burgess & Niple designed this $27 million Integrated Theater Unaccompanied Enlisted Personnel Housing (UEPH) barracks. The project was comprised of four separate three-story barracks totaling 109,859 SF, with 150 two-bedroom apartments and site improvements that meet applicable fire and life safety requirements.
Integration of the garden style barracks, and site layout designs create the
feeling of a private sector apartment building complex in a park-like setting
with commensurate site and building amenities. The design maintains safety
and security while allowing maintenance access to the mechanical and
electrical rooms and fire department access to the courtyard. When on site,
soldiers have their choice of the desired sport courts, picnic shelters, picnic
tables, grills and open space for other recreational activities. Maximizing the
use of the whole site, great attention was given to the two entrances on opposite
sides of the building to each module. The central courtyard continues the park
setting, unifying the four-building complex. The organically shaped hardscape
connects the building entrances. The courtyard is accentuated by the
surrounding native landscaping.
