Occoquan Regional Park is now home to The River View at the Jean R. Packard Center, a multi-million-dollar events venue. B&N provided civil engineering, surveying, geotechnical, environmental, and structural engineering services to prepare site plans for the development of this project. This included improvements to the park entrance and access road, a large wedding and events area, expanded parking lots, a large outdoor shelter, and a riverfront café.
Situated along the Occoquan River, much of the park falls within environmentally sensitive areas. B&N’s design focused on minimizing impacts to these areas and the use of innovative best management practices (BMPs) to provide water quality improvements. These measures include bio-retention basins, vegetated swales, and porous pavement.
In addition, B&N designed a network of trails throughout the park and a 5K paved trail loop that can be used for organized walks and runs.
B&N has a 30-year history of providing engineering services at Occoquan Park. Previous projects include an engineering study that was part of the park’s master plan, and the design of the park’s sea wall and boat ramp/dock.
