During a fracture critical inspection of the Clark Memorial Bridge conducted by Burgess & Niple, it was discovered that the deck slab and floor system of the through-truss was suffering widespread, significant distress. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) retained B&N to prepare bridge rehabilitation plans.
An expedited design schedule was requested, and within two months the B&N team submitted 44 drawings for bid. The work included replacement of the concrete deck, numerous floor stringers, deck joints and truss bearings, and other miscellaneous repairs. Traffic was maintained on the narrow deck using staged construction.
