Sofidel Breaks Ground on New Circleville Facility
CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio – Sofidel Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of tissue paper for hygiene and domestic use, broke ground on its new 1.95 million-square-foot facility in Circleville, Ohio on July 11, 2016. The Circleville facility will be Sofidel’s sixth manufacturing site in the U.S. and the company’s first U.S. greenfield project.
Burgess & Niple has been working with Sofidel since December 2015 to assist with the site permitting, groundwater source development and environmental, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering for the new manufacturing plant. B&N also is working closely with the Pickaway County Building Department to facilitate the building permit process. Sofidel employees are temporarily working out of the Burgess & Niple headquarters in Columbus, Ohio until they locate permanent office space.
"Today, we celebrate the commencement of construction of the first Sofidel integrated paper mill to be built from the ground up in the United States," said Sofidel CEO Luigi Lazzareschi during remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony. "It’s going to be a very big project for us."
The new facility is being designed to help reduce its environmental impact. This includes two co-generation plants that will produce electricity to run the paper machinery. The heat generated during the manufacturing process will be used to dry the paper and heat the building. In addition, the process water will be recycled and LED lighting will be used throughout the facility.
Estimated to be operational in March 2018, the facility will manufacture toilet paper, paper napkins, paper towels and facial tissue. The project will be phased and delivered using a combination of design-build and design-bid-build to fast track the construction and meet Sofidel’s aggressive project schedule.
