Kentucky Roundabout Receives Regional Award
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – A new roundabout in London, Kentucky was named the 2016 American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Great Lakes Region Project of the Year during the Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference (OTEC) in Columbus, Ohio last week.
Burgess & Niple, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), and Bizzack Construction, Inc. received the award for the transformation of a four-way stop into a new roundabout that helped improve safety and capacity issues at the intersection of KY 363 and KY 1006. The redesign eliminated lengthy back-ups and congestion that caused travel delays.
This is the fourth B&N-designed roundabout open to traffic in Kentucky. Final design for a new roundabout in Nicholas County to replace a five-legged signalized intersection is currently underway.
