First Ohio DDI Recognized for Engineering Excellence
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The first Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) in the state of Ohio was recognized as a top project at the annual Engineering Excellence Awards presented by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Ohio.
At a luncheon held on March 13, Burgess & Niple (B&N) was presented with a 2014 Outstanding Achievement Award for the design of the new Diverging Diamond Interchange at I-270 and Roberts Road in Columbus. The project was one of seven Outstanding Achievement Award recipients from a field of 23 entries from across Ohio.
B&N designed the DDI for the Ohio Department of Transportation to improve safety, reduce crashes and ease congestion. The cost effective roadway solution opened in October 2013 and serves a heavily traveled industrial, commercial and residential area.
It is the first DDI in the state of Ohio and the 23rd in the United States. It also is the first DDI in the country to include dedicated bike lanes.
