Milton-Madison Bridge Named “Best Project” at National ABC Conference
COLUMBUS, OH – During the recent National Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) Conference, the Milton-Madison Bridge Replacement Project was named “Best Project” for 2014 in the lateral slide category. The team of Walsh Construction, Burgess & Niple (B&N) and Buckland & Taylor designed and constructed the new bridge using an innovative truss sliding technique.
The project made history as the longest bridge slide in North America. Project partners included the Indiana Department of Transportation, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Michael Baker International. The new bridge was officially dedicated in October 2014.
The 2014 National Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) Conference, held December 4-5 in Miami, Florida, was co-sponsored by State Departments of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. The focus of the conference is on pre-fabricated bridge elements, systems, and technologies that will allow accelerating construction of bridges using various materials and techniques.
