A reliable water source in volumes sufficient to meet a growing facility’s needs has rapidly become a key factor for industries seeking new locations across the country. Ohio’s access to abundant water resources makes it a desirable destination for such development. However, limitations in Ohio’s current capacity to access, treat and distribute these water resources to development sites have hindered its ability to capitalize on many growth opportunities. Compounding this challenge is the uncertainty of a changing climate and its potential impact on our water supply.

Wastewater reuse is one method to help communities address the increasing water demands associated with rapid growth in a sustainable manner. This presentation will review the history of wastewater reuse, explore current applications and discuss its potential for growth through the beneficial reuse of sanitary wastewater. It will also examine the current and potential gaps in the regulatory environment and outline what designers and operators need to consider when implementing a wastewater reuse system in their community.
