The superstructure replacement for the John Herrick Drive Bridge was driven by the need to route a host of new utilities across the Olentangy River to support the new Ohio State University power plant. The existing adjacent box beam superstructure was replaced with spread prestressed concrete box beams including lean-on bracing to provide sufficient room for the utilities within the bays, keep the overall weight within the capacity of the existing piers, and meet schedule and budget constraints. The project used a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) alternative delivery method.
