Located in Bridgeport, Ohio (ODOT Dist. 11), the BEL-7-1975 bridge carries north- and south-bound SR7 over I-70 and various existing features. The twenty-two-span structure has a total length of over 1600 feet. Many of the pier caps have seriously deteriorated and required repairs after 50 years of service. This presentation will summarize and explain how to strengthen the deteriorated T-type pier caps using external post-tensioned bars. This unique temporary repair method, although straightforward in design and construction, has had limited use in Ohio.
